PaperPlay Challenges Wk17

Sponsorship this week on PaperPlay Challenge Blog is from Waltzingmouse Stamps who are generously giving 1 stamp set of winner's choice.

Your challenge is to use an object not intended for Crafting... Like Coins, Cans/Jars, Onion or Garlic Netted Bags, Shells, Cardboard box bits etc.

I was a little bit naughty on this challenge as my altered item IS something normally associated with crafting (in my eyes anyway) as it's an empty chocolate box and we all know that chocolate and crafting go hand in hand..... don't we?

The empty box was filled with gorgeous milk and plain truffles that my children bought me for Mothers' Day.  Best bit was that no-one else in the house actually liked them!!!!!!!

I have another of these boxes (though slightly smaller) that I altered and made a couple of years back but was in desperate need of another to store my increasing supply of ink pads in.

Creative ingredients:
Box; Chocolates - Paper; to be confirmed) - Alphas; Tim Holtz Grungeboard - Inkpads: Versamagic, Quick Quotes & ColorBox - Glitter; Stickles - Buttons - Twill

Inspirational Card Sketches #43

Dawn's Inspirational Card Sketch for us this week is lovely!  I really enjoyed working with this one to create my little happy Santa!

I gave the sketch a little bit of rotation and came up with this...

For the circular base I used a blank coaster that I simply inked round the edges and then added a simple ready made topper! S'cuse the handwriting round the edge of it!

Materials:
White 5 1/4" card.
Patterned paper: Debbi Moore.
Tag die: Sizzix.
Pens: Stabilo & Asda (calligraphy pen).
Inkpad: Colorbox.
Santa topper: Debbi Moore.
Buttons: Ebay.

Inspirational Card Sketches #42

I had such a mare of a week last week that I forgot to upload this card to my blog. I managed to get it across to Dawn in time for the ICS launch. I've also not had the chance to leave comments on the fab cards that the talented artists have made, so to those people, I'm truly sorry!

The images from The Greeting Farm are fantastic!  I loved this image of these two little cuties and couldn't wait to bring them to life with colour.

Materials:
WhiteA5 card.
Image: The Greeting Farm.
Colouring: Derwent Aquatone water pencils.
Patterned papers: Debbi Moore.
Border punch: Debbi Moore.
Circular Greeting: WordArt.
Inkpad: Colorbox.
Flower: Prima.
Snowflakes: Papermania.

Di Hickman October #3

It's been a while since I've joined in with one of Di Hickman's sketches.  Doesn't life just get in the way of having fun and doing what you want to do?  Anyway... Di has a great new sketch that's she's just put up on her blog and while chatting away to her on Facebook, I came up with this little number.  Very simple and it uses some lovely velvety flocked Bella! paper that was in a kit from Indigo Mill.

I've stamped the sentiment in brown faintly to work as a shadow then again, slightly offset in black.

The string came from a label that was on Jacob's new jeans and the buttons are all old and recycled too.

Materials
White pearlescent 6"x6" cardstock
Flocked paper: Bella! from Indigo Mill.
Stamp: Adornit - Carolee's Creations.
Inkpads: Colorbox Chalk  Eye (brown) & DewDrop Brilliance (Lightning black).
Buttons and string - recycled from stash.

New stamps

I treated myself to two stamp sets in the Stampin' Up range Sale via the lovely Jo Austin. The 'For Father' set reduced to a bargain £11.48 and the 'Summer by the Sea' set - although I bought the German version of this as it was cheaper in the sale than the English version! £18.71 as opposed to £24.95. (Scrooge I hear you cry, but I wanted the pictorial stamps rather than the sentiments, and it saved me over £6!!).

Anyhoo, the delivery is speedy indeed and the quality is fantastic. They are cut deeply and stamp perfectly.

I've only played with the Summer by the Sea set so far and wanted them simple and vintage in style so I stamped them with Chestnut Roan from ColorBox onto cream cardstock, and for my beach LO, I stamped onto craft cardstock. The couple cuddling are chalked lightly for a bit of added colour.

Nan

This would have been my nan's 100th year if she were still alive today. We'd have been having such a celebration in November to commemorate it. Instead there'll be some special flowers on her grave to mark what should have been her centenary.

I miss this lady so much you know! She only lived round the corner from my parents and could see down the street to watch us play from her back bedroom window. I always remember nan's bed being so high that when I was a little girl, I had to be lifted into her bed for a cuddle when I slept over.

The Easter and school summer holidays that we spent with her and our step-grandad Fred in their caravan near Skegness will always stay with me as special memories. We daren't be late in from playing at night incase the 6 o'clock / 7 o'clock / 8 o'clock horses (they got later as we got older) came galloping down the caravan site and carried us off! HAHA!!

The site was next to a farm where we used to go, jug in hand, to buy some milk, fresh from the vat. Yummy!

We used to walk down the long, straight road into Skegness and nan would always tell us whether it would be a good summer or not by how high the crows were nesting in the trees.

I remember getting the polish and duster out to polish Fred's bald head, bless him! Learning the 'gypsy stitch' in knitting and knitting a bright yellow scarf in the evenings as nan listened to the plays on the radio; the pull down wall bed that my sister and I slept in as children; the gas mantles that she lit every evening and the fire she made in hearth. *sigh!*

This photograph was taken on my wedding day in 1988 and is one of the very few photographs that I've got of my nan. I wish I had more!

The more astute will notice that nan's date of passing isn't on the LO as, to be honest, I'm not 100% sure if it was 1998/1999 that we lost her to be with her two husbands that had passed before and were waiting for her. I'm sure it was 1999, but mum will need to confirm it for me before I finally complete her page.

This LO invoked some very happy memories for me and some sad moments too when I remember just how much she meant to me and how much I miss her. God Bless nan! I'll love you always. xxx

Sentiments and photo frame cut on the Cricut using Home Decor cartridge.
